MEET BIANCA.

AN INSPIRING INDIVIDUAL.
We recently worked with Bianca for the launch of our Ath-Lounge capsule. After a day of shooting we sat down with her to hear more about the balanced lifestyle she leads as a Pilates instructor, BHScNaturopathy student and young professional.

Get ready to feel inspired.

What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor?
Growing up dancing, I would also regularly attend Pilates classes with my mum as I always loved moving my body for not only the physical but also mental release I would find through exercise. After a few years of punishing myself at the gym and not mentally feeling fulfilled, I then rediscovered Pilates - I realised there was no going back. I knew this was something I wanted to guide and help others to learn and love too! It really does go further than the physical aspect, Pilates allows me to become more in-tune with my body, and has transformed the way I feel mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

What tips would you give a beginner to pilates?

Pilates is for everyone! Most instructors will layer their classes, which means that it is also for all levels giving you options to progress or regress if need be. You will also be so surprised at how strong you will get from body weight exercises. Also, the best part of Pilates is you're mostly laying down!!

Where do you teach pilates and how can we attend your class?
I am currently teaching classes online via zoom and will continue to do so once the studios are back open. You can find my classes through my Instagram @biancamelas. Otherwise if you are based in Sydney you can catch me teaching at Peaches Pilates, Bodylove Pilates and Kx Randwick.

How do you suggest making Pilates a part of your lifestyle?

It is so easy to incorporate Pilates into your lifestyle! Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates who embodied and taught the principals of Pilates as something that everyone should be doing in their day to day life in order to live a life free from illness. He quotes "Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit'. He saw Pilates as a way to not only work on your physical fitness but to also enhance your mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing too.

I wore size S in our shoot and I loved that they were high waist, as well as super supportive and tight through the legs. These are the two things I look for in leggings and Johnny definitely ticked both boxes!

You introduced us to your gorgeous boyfriend Nicolas, is Pilates something you do together?
Pilates was something that I introduced to my boyfriend and encouraged him to try. In fact, he was one of my first clients!! As I was training to be an instructor Nick was super supportive and allowed me to practice on him! I think it’s fair to say his perception on Pilates changed straight away and he was also hooked! He has found Pilates to be super useful in relieving back pain, as well as improving his core strength and running style. Both Nick and his mates regularly join in on my classes!

Any tips for the boys who would like to start Pilates?

Just start and give it a go, you will be surprised! I think boys have this misconception that Pilates is just stretching, you need to be flexible and its 'easy'. Which is not the case!!! Pilates is for everyone, and everybody! It is great to compliment other styles of exercise, especially running and heavy weightlifting.

Where are we most likely to find you on a Saturday morning?
Nick and I start our Saturday mornings having a coffee and tea at our local Clodeli before I head off to teach my first class of the day!

Favourite brunch spots?
I love going out for brunch! My top two spots are Bread and Circus in Alexandria! And Porch and Parlour in Bondi!

What size did you wear in our leggings and how did they make you feel?
I wore size S i and I loved that they were high waist, as well as super supportive and tight through the legs. These are the two things I look for in leggings and Johnny definitely ticked both boxes!
